Coming Home

I finally started my new job. It is absolutely amazing to me how God works. I was hired to be a para educator (teacher's assistant) for the RSP teacher at a local elementary school about 15 minutes from my home. RSP is the Reading Resource Specialists, so I was going to help tutor students in small groups and one on one with their reading and language arts skills.

On my first day, I arrived at school in a skirt and low heeled sandals, thinking wow, I can actually dress up for work! How fun, In the past I have always worn jeans and tennis shoes, because when you are chasing kids, and playing with them on the floor all day, this is the best thing to wear.

When I met with the Principal, he asked me a few questions about my background, and then offered me another position that was available at the school. Would you be willing to work in the Pre-K children with autism class? YES I replied, absolutely. Apparently, one of the teacher's aide's that has been working in that room, had a recent arm injury and is unable to be with the children anymore. She had been placed in the RSP class, and they wanted me to take her place.

Walking into the classroom was like coming home. The classroom is so well organized, and the teacher is amazing. She is incredible. Truly she has the gift to be teaching these children. I felt a warm welcome from the other assistants, they made me feel a part of their team almost instantly. The children are so special, bright, caring, loving, active and creative. I am so blessed to be a part of this team of teachers.

So, I don't mind dressing in jeans and tennis shoes again. Truly, God had a plan and a purpose for me, I know I am where I belong. Why would all these doors open up for me to be working with children with Autism again. Out of all the teacher assistant positions available in the district, this in the one that falls in my lap. I know in my heart that this is my calling. In responding to this call, I have applied for the teaching credential program at Long Beach State for the Spring semester. I pray and hope that I am able to return to school and get my credential!
